We are looking for a passionate and imaginative Senior Designer to join our
team and help craft unforgettable encounters in our upcoming title. You'll be
responsible for designing, prototyping, and iterating on boss fights that
challenge players, push their skills, and leave a lasting impression.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and implement compelling boss encounters from concept to final polish.
• Define the creative and mechanical vision for boss fights, ensuring alignment with the game's tone, pacing, and progression.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring boss encounters to life and ensure they meet design goals.
• Own and maintain high-quality design documentation and ensure alignment across disciplines.
• Develop scalable systems for boss behaviour, attack patterns, and progression.
• Script and tune boss behaviours, attacks, and phases.
• Balance difficulty, pacing, and player feedback to ensure boss fights are fair, readable, and rewarding.
• Drive iteration through playtesting, feedback, and data analysis.
• Contribute to the overall design vision and help shape the player experience across the game.
• Along with the Lead Designer, you will help mentor designers, providing feedback and guidance to support their growth.
• You should be a positive, proactive, and contributing team member, both within the team and across the studio.
Requirements
• Extensive experience designing combat systems and boss encounters in shipped titles.
• Deep understanding of combat systems, boss encounters, enemy AI, player readability and combat pacing.
• Ability to write clear, structured, and comprehensive design documentation.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, iterative development environment.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Technical knowledge to debug and troubleshoot Design issues as they arise.
• Passion for games and a strong sense of what makes memorable, challenging and engaging boss and combat encounters.
Bonus Points
• Experience with UE4/UE5 Blueprints or similar scripting tools.
• Experience with animation systems, behaviour trees, or AI design.
• A portfolio or reel showcasing boss design work or combat encounter breakdowns
Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
