Lead Environment Artist, External Partners (Star Wars FPS Team)

We are seeking an experienced Lead Environment Artist who will help manage work and communication with our external art partners on our new Star Wars FPS game. You will have deep experience working closely with external environment art partners as a member of a AAA game team. You will have worked on games from concept to ship, and have a rich portfolio that demonstrates a critical eye for detail and quality, while showing a good technical and design experience. You are someone with a solid art and technical background, a strong communicator who can embrace our philosophy and share their hard-earned expertise to create an incredible experience for our players.
What you'll do...
• Reporting to the project Art Director, you will collaborate with project leadership, Lead Environment Artist, Lead Mission Designer, and Production Designer, and a Producer & Development Director, to understand our quality bar, art/design needs, and schedule requirements. All of which you will champion with our external partners.
• When appropriate, you will create in-engine examples of environment art and lighting for our partners to reference from a quality and technical standpoint.
• Partner with Mission Designers to refine layout, composition, and geo pacing for in-engine Design Blockouts that are delivered to our partners, to assist them with art direction and decision-making based on the expected level design.
• Advocate for our visual and technical guidelines and best practices to our external partners. Help ensure they deliver quality environment art that meets our technical requirements.
• Review Jira tickets for work-in-progress art assets, along with art deliveries for in-game levels, and provide prompt visual and technical feedback throughout the process.
• Proactively surface issues and seek ways to improve our overall process for working on environment art with our partners.
Ideally, you will have...
• 5+ years professional experience as a Principal or Senior Environment Artist for games.
• Passion for making and playing games.
• Experience working on AAA game(s) through the full development cycle (from concept to ship) as an embedded member of a studio development team is strongly preferred.
• Portfolio of highly detailed Environment Art with a focus on environments and variety of subject matter, e.g. buildings, props, natural landscapes, etc. Portfolio should show quality, eye for detail, ability to hit a photorealistic/believable look, and technical know-how.
• Previous experience working on environment art with external partners for shipped games.
• Mastery of relevant software packages such as Maya, Photoshop, Substance, and Zbrush.
• Strong understanding of artistic foundations such as scale, proportion, and surface properties.
• Experience working within a game engine, implementing and verifying 3D work in-engine.
• Strong understanding of game engine tools and pipelines such as UE4, UE5, Unity, and other proprietary tools.
• Ability to know what it takes to polish gameplay moments and environments to a AAA quality.
