Senior Technical Artist (External Development Dept / Apex Legends)

Respawn Entertainment is a AAA video game development studio that aspires to create new hit games that leave a lasting impact for gamers worldwide. Our work includes the critically acclaimed multi-platform games Apex Legends and Titanfall franchise. We developed the Star Wars™ action-adventure game Jedi: Fallen Order and virtual reality game Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, and we are continuing development for our live free-to-play game, Apex Legends.

We are looking for an accomplished Sr. Technical Artist who combines creativity and imagination with technical expertise. You will be the bridge between artists in our outsourcing department and our IT and engineering teams. Main areas of responsibility can include optimizing art production workflows, tools, pipelines, and asset optimization/integration with the primary goal being to assume ownership over any technical issues that arise on the projects our OS department supports, and to bring them to resolution.

You are working not only to support the external content that our OS art team manages, but also to support our external art teams when they are blocked by technical issues and will routinely coordinate not only with the developers within your department, but also with the technical stakeholders on the project level and IT at the studio level, to ensure the live service content that relies primarily on our internal and external Outsourcing Team, continues to flow optimally and uninterrupted. As the Sr. Technical Artist in the Studio OS Department, you will report to the Director of Outsourcing.

What you will do...
• Actively seek opportunities to create, improve, and maintain tools and processes that improve our art creation/integration processes in our department and among our external partners
• Own any technical issues that arise on projects supported by the OS Department and extending to our external partners
• Support the OS art team in identifying project-specific tools and tech needs and developing an implementation plan
• Bridge any asset integration gaps by helping to ensure external art partners are equipped to integrate content to the degree determined by project leadership
• Provide general support for OS art team and external partners by documenting/sharing solutions and best practices
• Work in close collaboration with project Tech Art personnel across Respawn as well as centralized Tech Art support at EA Create as part of a wider, global team working on interconnected tools and systems
• Stay current in latest technologies and research in your field to ensure our tools and pipelines remain cutting edge

Ideally, you will have...
• Effective communication with divergent audiences across art, engineering, and management domains
• Proficient scripting/programming in python and C# (C++ is a bonus)
• Experience supporting external teams
• Expert knowledge of 2D and 3D art packages (i.e. Maya, Photoshop, Substance Designer)
• Empathy for fixing the problems of others, whether internal Respawn or external partners, and respect for others' time.
• 6+ years of AAA game experience.
• A willingness to jump into the unknown and solve new problems; the ability to think creatively to resolve technical challenges and limitations
