Engineering Development Director (Apex Legends)

Our newly opened Madison, WI office is looking for an Engineering Development Director to provide technical mentorship and guidance for a group of software engineers that support Apex Legends. You will build an engineering team, supporting employee development, collaborating across the Apex team of engineers, designers, and artists and finally there will be times where you will need to code & fix bugs.

This role is anticipated to be a hybrid onsite work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. Reporting to the WI Studio Director you will:
• Work with the Studio Director to define and execute strategic goals and milestones, establish best practices, and promote the core development values of the engineering team.
• Work with production staff, directors, and other Leads to establish engineering tasks and manage schedule requirements.
• Collaborate with the Apex team to ensure understanding and inform the group on status updates, risks, and milestones
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance for engineers for tools and gameplay development.
• Guide and grow engineering team-leads into successful people managers.
• Review completed engineering tasks in collaboration with the Studio Director, the production staff, and other leads.
• Collaborate to ensure that technology interests and policies are represented and maintained through the course of development, and that future technology is being developed on schedule.
• Perform research to acquire new knowledge necessary to perform assigned tasks and maintain the technological evolution of the project.
• Maintain familiarity with Respawn and EA's current game designs and with new technologies across the game industry in multiple genres.
• Ensure the quality, performance, and stability of technical deliverables
• Manage technical requirements and risks, removing roadblocks and raising red flags, etc.

• 10+ years of professional experience authoring code for game software.
• Experience shipping multiple AAA games, with at least one as a senior engineer or higher on a large team.
• Shipped at least one professional game authored in C++.
• Leadership experience managing engineers.
• Experience with performance analysis and code optimization.
• Experience communicating with artists, designers, and other engineers.
• Experience with technical design.
