Job Description
Sportico is seeking a Managing Editor to take a leadership role in the newsroom, helping run our coverage the billion-dollar intersection of sports and finance.
The ideal candidate has more than ten years of experience as a senior-level editor at a digital media publication. That includes managing groups of reporters and editors, maintaining a publishing schedule, upholding editorial standards, ideating stories, consulting on news gathering, and other day-to-day tasks that keep the newsroom functioning. This person will also be expected to contribute at the strategic level, helping shape Sportico's long-term editorial direction and collaborate with the business team to create and grow revenue-generating franchises.
Our newsroom is currently comprised of about 15 people-including social media and editors-based almost entirely in PMC's New York headquarters. This candidate would work full-time out of that Midtown Manhattan newsroom, managing some of the sports business world's most talented reporters. The role's purview includes the Sportico site, newsletters, social media, and digital series. It will also involve potential collaborations across PMC's portfolio of brands.
Requirements and Responsibilities:
• 10+ years of experience managing a newsroom as a senior-level editor (i.e., editor-in-chief, managing editor, executive editor)
• Proven ability to handle breaking news
• Familiarity with the day-to-day work of both editors and journalists, ideally with personal experience with both
• Comfort setting and maintaining a weekly pub schedule
• Willingness to define and enforce Sportico's high journalistic standards
• Understanding of the changing nature of digital publishing
• Ability to delegate and organize the newsroom to optimize efficiency and ability
• Partnering with our editor-in-chief and publisher at the intersection of Sportico's editorial and business endeavors
As PMC values in-person collaboration and team cohesion, employees work onsite 4 days a week and 1 day remotely with a focus on maintaining a vibrant and inclusive culture.
Typical wage range: $160k - $175k. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range.
