Santa Monica Studio is looking for a Sr Technical Narrative Designer to join our Narrative team on its next great adventure.

As a senior member of the team, you'll work closely with the team's Lead to ensure there's a solid technical foundation for the project and help the team to contribute their best work through established standards, conventions, workflows, and best practices. Your solid grasp of technical design and implementation, helping to set the bar for quality, efficiency, and robustness.

Working as a member of the Narrative team, you'll work side-by-side with our Level Design, Writing, Systems Design, Art, Animation, and Engineering teams. Creating and supporting ambitious, innovative content by planning, scripting, choreographing, and implementing gameplay and narrative. You'll be comfortable navigating a large team of cross-discipline experts, forming effective relationships with partners and stakeholders across the entire studio.

Senior members of the team are relied upon for their ability to work through ambiguous situations, turning direction and goals into repeatable results. You'll be comfortable working through challenging design problems, managing your time and workload to deadline.

Responsibilities
• Help to design and plan how narrative is realized in the project by weaving it into the very fabric of the game.
• Build content using visual and text-based scripting systems, Maya, and in-house tools.
• Work closely with the members of our Narrative & Design teams to craft and deliver content that's of the highest quality.
• Support the creative direction of the Game Director and Design Director, as well as the Narrative Design Lead's interpretation of how to realize the team's goals.
• Help determine and deploy technical standards, conventions, workflows, and best practices for narrative realization.
• Collaborate effectively with other disciplines (such as Animation and Audio) to achieve desired outcomes.
• Participate constructively in production and design meetings, and discussions.
• The position also involves debugging technical issues.

Requirements
• Demonstrated ability to realize high quality game features and content through technical design and implementation.
• Experience creating and implementing narrative delivery systems.
• Deep experience with game editors, production tools, and engines.
• Advanced ability in working with coding and/or scripting languages.
• A solid understanding of game production as well as industry standard design tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience
• 5 years game development experience on commercially published titles.
• Shipped at least 1 AAA game that you worked on for over a year.
• CS background.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

$106,600 - $159,800 USD
