You will be a key member of our backend team supporting PlayStation's GraphQL platform. These services provide over 100 million monthly active users access to our ecosystem. You will utilize your knowledge of TypeScript, Node, GraphQL, Kubernetes, observability, and system architecture to help us ensure the scalability, durability, and reliability of our systems; helping to build the core infrastructure of our next generation platforms and services.
Our co-located team works from our San Mateo office once a week; providing a great opportunity to meet and collaborate, while ensuring individual flexibility. We make the most of these days by hosting demos, planning meetings, architecture reviews, and white-boarding sessions while we are together.
Responsibilities:
• Contribute to the development of backend systems that power the PlayStation platform as part of a collaborative Scrum team.
• Work closely with engineers from our client, and other backend, teams to support the design and implementation of platform services.
• Build and maintain scalable services using Node.js and TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, including unit tests for features and bug fixes.
• Assist in troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving technical issues.
• Provide feedback through RFCs, architecture reviews, and code reviews
• Monitor our systems through Grafana and DataDog dashboards.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for your work.
• Continuously learn and grow by engaging with senior engineers, adopting best practices in software development.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in backend or full-stack development.
• Direct experience with Node.js, preferably with TypeScript.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes
• Knowledge of RESTful APIs and general web service principles.
• Familiarity with cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with an eagerness to learn and take feedback.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, agile team environment.
• Knowledge of version control systems such as Git and familiarity with pull request workflows.
• Interest in CI/CD pipelines and understanding the basics of automated builds or testing.
• Experience monitoring performance metrics for backend services.
• Coursework or exposure to software testing, data structures, or distributed systems concepts.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with GraphQL.
• Familiarity with frontend frameworks or Server-Side Rendering (SSR) tools such as Next.js.
• Experience with Java
• Experience with gRPC

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role's base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.
Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.
$163,700 - $245,500 USD
