Job Description
PlayStation isn't just the Best Place to Play - it's also the Best Place to Work. Today, we're recognized as a global leader in entertainment producing The PlayStation family of products and services including PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, PlayStation®VR, PlayStation®Plus, acclaimed PlayStation software titles from PlayStation Studios, and more.
PlayStation also strives to create an inclusive environment that empowers employees and embraces diversity. We welcome and encourage everyone who has a passion and curiosity for innovation, technology, and play to explore our open positions and join our growing global team.
The PlayStation brand falls under Sony Interactive Entertainment, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation.
How would you like to influence the most successful gaming platform of all time, by testing and analyzing the very technology our PlayStation developers use to build our best selling games? Do you want to work at a company where customers have real excitement for the products you help create? Is your perfect job one where you are constantly learning with every project?
Sony Interactive Entertainment (PlayStation) has an exciting career opportunity! We are looking for a motivated and creative engineer who can build the software required to verify key pieces of the PlayStation ecosystem; who is focused on quality, consistency, and thoughtful testing practices to develop and maintain automated tests that support the performance and reliability of our products. As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) II, you'll work hands-on with our SDK and peripherals, independently own and drive automated test coverage for specific features, and collaborate with senior engineers and development teams to ensure system quality.
This position involves analyzing the quality of one of the following: (1) Real-world audio and video codecs used throughout the PlayStation system software. (2) PlayStation CPU compilers and tools that are part of the open-source LLVM compiler infrastructure. (3) PlayStation's 3D Audio technology and greater audio ecosystem used in the PlayStation software development kit (SDK) and system software. (4) The firmware and platform integration of PlayStation peripherals such as PlayStation® Link™ devices. While these four areas are primary focus areas, there may be opportunities in testing 3D graphics, artificial intelligence, and the fully integrated PlayStation game development environment.
We want someone who can directly contribute to PlayStation technology: by constructing tools and tests to better analyze the systems and libraries in the greater PlayStation SDK ecosystem. In addition, we seek new ways to expand and improve our existing testing infrastructure. Come join us and work closely with your team to ensure the highest quality PlayStation SDK projects and hardware!

Responsibilities:
• Developing, maintaining, and enhancing the testing tools and frameworks used for ensuring high quality PlayStation® SDK components and peripheral firmware.
• Building and improving test infrastructure, simplifying deployment of building, testing, or demonstrating PlayStation® sample applications. Typically this infrastructure will be built using Python.
• Crafting and developing test cases for PlayStation® SDK libraries in C++ or embedded firmware in C
• Researching tools for building and analyzing PlayStation software.
• Own automation suites for assigned features, ensuring test reliability and comprehensive coverage
• Support and enhance automation frameworks used across hardware and platform-level testing (using Python)
• If assigned to a peripheral testing project: performing firmware integration testing on PlayStation® 5, PlayStation® Portal, and Windows
• Monitor test infrastructure, analyzing and fixing automation failures, and improve performance and stability
• Analyze test execution data to identify flaky or slow tests and contribute to runtime optimization
• Evaluate and integrate new tools and methodologies to improve testing efficiency and scalability
• Assessing SDK technology and peripheral hardware quality with the support of other specialists. Make testing plans, samples, and documentation together with our software production, documentation, product, and remote offshore engineering teams.

Skills and Characteristics
• Possessing outstanding verbal and written communication skills, which encompass making pitches to product managers, software engineers, project managers, and customers.
• Ability to present technical information in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders.
• Passion for solving problems in creative ways.
• Strong debugging skills.
• Results oriented, who works independently under minimal direction with strong work ethic.
Qualifications
• Proficient in Python programming. (Multiple academic or industry projects completed, 2+ years programming experience.)
• 2+ years of experience programming in C++.
• Experience building, running, and debugging software in Windows environments.
• Having a passion for automation with the ability to discuss the pros and cons of various automation approaches.
Nice-to-Have
• Experience running and debugging scripts/tools on Linux.
• Prior experience with PlayStation SDK development is helpful.
• Writing unit and integration tests.
• Knowledge of fuzz testing is a plus.
• Japanese language familiarity a plus.
