We have an opportunity with San Diego Studio. We seek a Narrative Game Designer to join our team and work on MLB The Show. This role will focus on adding narrative to all components of the play experience.

The right person will bring their own creative perspective and narrative design skills to the game creation process. The ideal candidate designs from a place of empathy, is highly creative, is on top of recent trends, is a self-starter, and is capable of creating first class experiences. Does that sound like you?

Responsibilities:
• Adding linear narrative concepts onto dynamic baseball games and seasons. This includes:
• Enabling and supporting branching possibilities
• Identifying the most essential possibilities and account for them in the narrative
• Economizing the amount of content required
• Work with design tools to build the logic structures that activate, keep track of, and advance these branching narratives
• In collaboration with the team, create compelling baseball related narratives. These narratives will incorporate a combination of different elements including: visual scenes, text dialog, narration, in-game commentary, media commentary, linear and/or complex branching narrative structure
• Create documentation, wireframes, storyboards, user flows, and prototypes to effectively communicate gameplay and narrative design ideas
• Present designs to peers and stakeholders while clearly communicating design rationale
• Visually and verbally articulate narrative design decisions to teammates both within and outside of the team project
• Establish and promote best practices, and share these with other cross-functional teams
• Conceptualize new narrative opportunities, as needed, in order to raise the bar within established IP
• Scope work, to fit within milestone deadlines and deliver on time
• Research and experiment with new implementation and creation techniques

Requirements:
• 2+ years of experience creating narrative designs in videogames
• Experience with narrative creation including: Story boarding, Writing (dialogue, historical/biographical non-fiction, fiction, sports writing), Story structure and/or Narrative architecture
• Experienced or knowledgeable of cinematography particularly as applied in videogames
• Be up to date with the latest narrative game design trends, techniques, and technology
• Experience creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, visual designs, and prototypes as well as clear documentation
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable but not required:
• A degree in a related field: Writing/Literature, Journalism or Broadcasting
• Experience in a form of storytelling outside of videogames (e.g., published work)
• Experience with sports or sports news production
• Experience working on any game with a Live Content emphasis
• Knowledge of baseball and baseball history
• A personal connection to the sport of baseball (fan, player, industry, etc.)
