Penguin Random House, the world's leading trade book publisher, is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to join the prestigious Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group. This role is a unique opportunity to lead an interdisciplinary marketing team that spans audience development, consumer engagement, insights and analytics, marketing operations, media buying, advertising performance, creative design and copy. In addition, the role oversees all aspects of the backlist marketing, sales, and publishing strategy for the catalogue of over 10,000 titles. The SVP will work alongside the existing teams to identity new audiences, opportunities, and partnerships to reaching new markets and ensuring continued growth for our authors and their works.
In this role, you will report directly to the President and Publisher of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group and collaborate closely with sales, publishing, editorial, publicity, finance, and strategy teams. We are looking for a detail-oriented, meticulous self-starter who has a successful history of setting intentions and motivating stakeholders. With a confident approach to collaboration and building strong working relationships with internal and external partners. This in-office position has responsibilities such as attending sales conferences, author and agent meetings, team and strategy meetings, and conventions. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance at least 3 days a week in our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).

The Role:
• Campaign Leadership: Direct the creation and implementation of marketing and branding campaigns for over 400 titles annually, spanning all adult trade categories such as fiction, non-fiction, cookbooks, graphic novels, core backlist titles and poetry in concert with imprint publishers
• Team Management: Oversee a large, multi-disciplinary team of marketers
• Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: consider the role of DEI in all aspects of marketing and publishing strategy for both frontlist and backlist development
• Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with Publicity and key stakeholders (Publishing, Editorial, Sales) to develop integrated marketing strategies that drive sales and enhance brand presence
• Budget Oversight: Manage a substantial annual marketing budget in partnership with publishers, ensuring effective allocation for title marketing campaigns, co-op, freelancers, consultants, marketing tools, and resources
• Stakeholder Engagement: Guide and actively participate in marketing and sales meetings, and engage with authors, agents, and other business partners to ensure cohesive and impactful marketing efforts
• Spearhead the backlist strategy for a catalog of thousands of titles, highlighting opportunities for increased distribution; social content; advertising and message testing; and repackaging
The Key Essentials:
• Extensive Experience: At least 10 years of experience in book marketing management, with proven leadership and supervisory and technical marketing capabilities
• Creative Vision: Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strong creative and brand-building strategies across multiple fiction and nonfiction categories
• Campaign Expertise: Expertise in designing and implementing integrated marketing campaigns, including traditional media, paid social, programmatic, and search advertising
• Analytical Mindset: Strong analytical skills to optimize marketing efforts for maximum ROI and to develop precise audience insights and targeting strategies
• Innovation: Proven track record of conceiving and executing innovative consumer-facing marketing campaigns that stand out in the marketplace
• Industry Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of both established and emerging marketing practices within the publishing industry and related sectors
• Results-Oriented: Highly motivated, resourceful, and results-driven with a strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively in achieving business goals
• Exceptional Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with keen attention to detail and the ability to effectively prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Adaptability: Thrives in a dynamic, ever-changing environment, with the ability to solve problems efficiently and adapt to new challenges
• Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Passion for literary and commercial fiction, history, current affairs, graphic novels, poetry and popular culture: An avid reader with a deep interest in and knowledge of current trends
The salary range for this position is $210,000-$230,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
