Subsidiary Rights Assistant, Random House Children's Books (Hybrid)
The Random House Children's Books Subsidiary Rights department seeks a new assistant to join our dynamic six-person team. Reporting to the Foreign Rights Director, the Subsidiary Rights Assistant will have the opportunity to work with outstanding books for young readers, from board books to young adult, and everything in between.
This is a chance to learn about foreign licensing and gain insight into the publishing industry. This position requires constant communication with various internal departments like production, editorial, and contracts. It is also a chance to interact with foreign publishers and agents from all over the world.
Our ideal candidate is enthusiastic about the business side of publishing, good at multi-tasking, and extraordinarily organized. We are looking for a detail-oriented, meticulous self-starter who loves books of all types and is invested in the process of bringing them to a wide readership, has strong writing and analytical skills, communicates clearly, is comfortable asking for help when needed, and wants to be an active participant on a collaborative team. If you can handle the details of immediately urgent tasks but also remember to stay on top of your own responsibilities and to-do list, you'll assume greater responsibilities over time.
This hybrid position has occasional in-office responsibilities, including but not limited to in-office meetings, author visits or events, physically mailing books and handling boxes, and daily ad hoc administrative projects. We need someone with a desire to learn and grow who can pivot often to answer queries, internally and externally, research rights, and organize submissions and sales materials. Come learn about subsidiary rights and the special place we hold within the publishing world. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
