Penguin Random House is seeking a Royalty Accountant to join our Rights Management team. The Royalties Department represents a roster of award-winning and celebrated titles across an editorial breadth that includes quality nonfiction and literary and classic fiction.

The Royalty Accountant is an integral part of the author statement process and full execution of author payments and provides the opportunity to interact with editorial, subsidiary rights, international sales, managing editorial and finance departments.

The Role:
• Maintain and update royalties accounting records in SAP (PRH Rights Management database)
• Prepare journal entries, monthly account analysis, balance sheet account reconciliations, and assist in the monthly financial close process
• Ensure journal entries from the royalty system are appropriate, timely, and correct
• Ability to analyze and interpret contracts to apply terms to author transactions
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies in the general ledger
• Reconcile author accounts to advances and calculated royalties
• Resolve inquiries from other departments such as Contracts, Editorial, Subsidiary Rights (a team that sells translation and other rights), and Royalty Statements
• Liaise with IT regarding royalty system and processes
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Prepare ad hoc reports as requested

The Essentials:
• A strong history in relevant accounting or bookkeeping experience; publishing experience is a plus but not a requirement to succeed in this role
• A self-starter with impeccable attention to detail and able to meet deadlines
• Highly proficient in MS Excel & MS Word
• SAP experience is a plus but not a requirement (training available)
• A timely communicator with excellent verbal and written communication skills
• A team player able to work independently and with a larger team when needed
• BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is a plus, but not a requirement to succeed in this role-we value a longstanding relationship and the proven ability to overseeing accounts and the execution of payments

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $70,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
