Penguin Random House seeks a Design Assistant to join a fast-paced and versatile Marketing Design team, working primarily on the Avery, TarcherPerigee, Portfolio, Sentinel, and Thesis imprints. Supporting the Executive Art Director and design team, the Design Assistant will have the opportunity to create marketing assets on a wide array of genres and adult nonfiction titles, from finance to novelty books and products, self-care to business management, cookbooks to memoirs, journals, crafting, and more. This role will work closely with the design teams, marketers, and media buyers to brainstorm and create marketing, publicity, and promotional materials, and will have opportunities to work on special team projects and conceive independent projects.

This is a hybrid position with occasional in-office responsibilities. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the wider tri-state area (NJ, CT, NY, & PA).

The Role:
• Assisting the design team in conceptualizing and designing digital and print ad campaigns as well as promotional materials for assigned titles, including but not limited to social media images, cover animations/animated gifs and other short form videos, lifestyle photos, original illustrations, website assets, postcards, templates, and back of book ads
• Creating digital and physical book mockups
• Managing departmental tasks, remote and in-office
• Designing presentations for sales conferences and author and agent meetings
• Keeping up to date on design trends and marketing news and participating in group brainstorms and discussions

The Essentials:
• Minimum of six months' design experience as a staff designer, design intern, or related freelance work
• Excellent design flexibility, including strong type design, to create across a wide range of aesthetics, audiences, and project types
• Proven self-starter with strong task management skills and attention to detail
• Proven ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to communicate, problem solve creatively, and collaborate well with internal and external partners, and incorporating various stakeholders' feedback under tight deadlines
• Ability to work effectively on a team as well as independently
• Experience with color correction, color theory, retouching, and preparing files for output,

both digital and print
• Highly proficient with the MAC environment and Adobe Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
• Knowledge of animation (Adobe After Effects) and video editing (Adobe Premiere)
• Knowledge of Microsoft Suite: Word, PowerPoint and Excel
• Photography and Illustration skills a plus
• Knowledge of HTML, HTML5, Google Docs a plus

The salary for this position is $48,000. Full-time employees are eligible for our comprehensive benefits program.
