Job Description

The WaterBrook and Multnomah imprints of Penguin Random House are seeking an Executive Editor to join the team. Reporting to the VP, Publisher of WaterBrook and Multnomah books, this Editor will solicit, acquire, evaluate and develop nonfiction manuscripts and proposals across all genres published by the two imprints, including inspirational, Christian living, devotional, personal growth, and relationships. The role includes building a personal stable of authors as well as working alongside other editors to bring their acquired projects to completion.

The ideal candidate has a proven record for acquiring and editing successful, high-quality non-fiction, strong relationships with agents and authors, and a deep knowledge of the Christian publishing space.

The team's award-winning and bestselling authors include Jennie Allen, John Mark Comer, Latasha Morrison, Tim Tebow, and Michael Todd.

Specific Responsibilities Include:
• Actively solicit, acquire, evaluate, and develop new titles
• Build and nurture strong relationships with a wide network of agents and author contacts
• In coordination with the publisher, assess potential value of projects, craft P&Ls, formulate acquisitions requests
• Work with authors on concepts, outlines, and revisions of manuscripts, from substantive structural feedback through line edits
• Coordinate the lifecycle of the editorial process from acquisition to publication, maintaining an effective relationship with production, managing editorial/copyediting, cover and interior design, and other departments
• Oversee the preparation of title information sheet and jacket, online, and catalog copy
• Partner with the publicity and marketing teams on campaigns for publication
• Prepare supplemental material as needed, including endorsement requests and final endorsement copy, title information sheets, early reading samples and other materials as requested for the sales force, along with study guide questions and value-add materials
• Coordinate with marketing, author, metadata team, and production regarding cover and marketing copy
• Keep abreast of trends and competitive titles
• Conduct ongoing title sales and platform research, as it relates to acquisition opportunities and P&Ls
• Manage select repackaging projects to maintain backlist
• Handle daily correspondence, office work, phones, attend required meetings
• Handle special projects as assigned and work collaboratively with the larger team
• Perform other related duties, administrative tasks, support functions as needed

Qualifications:
• Minimum
of 5 years proven editorial experience in book publishing
• Knowledge of the Christian publishing landscape
• Excellent negotiation skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Effective, goal-oriented team player who can cultivate productive working relationships
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and to be supportive of other team members as well as authors
• Proficiency in creative problem-solving, decision making, time management, and setting priorities

Salary range for this position is $85,000 - $110,000.

The salary range listed is specific to each particular open position and takes into account various factors including the specifics of the individual role, and candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
