Editorial Assistant - Penguin Young Readers (Open to Remote)

Penguin Young Readers has an exciting opportunity for an Editorial Assistant to join their division and provide support for two of their imprints. Reporting into the President and Publisher of Dutton Children's Books, in addition to a Senior Editor at Putnam Young Readers, the Editorial Assistant will assist with editorial and administrative duties and play a part in bringing fiction and non-fiction Middle Grade and YA books to a wide readership. We are looking for a detail-oriented self-starter who loves books; possesses strong writing, analytical, and communication skills; can manage a diverse set of responsibilities efficiently and effectively; is comfortable asking for help when needed; and wants to be an active participant on a collaborative team.

Job responsibilities:
• Provide administrative support, including: ordering author copies, requesting Library of Congress numbers, handling reprint correction requests, filing expense reports, routing invoices, executing mailings, and drafting contract terms.
• Draft cover copy, title information sheets, cover memos, and other materials.
• Support acquisitions with evaluation of proposals and manuscripts, logging submissions, and drafting rejection letters.
• Liaise between authors, agents, and the different departments within the publishing group.
• Prepare title lists for awards and announcements.
• Handle special projects to support the overall efforts of the imprint.

Minimum qualifications:
• Passion/interest in Middle Grade & YA books.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong writing and critical thinking skills.
• Strong reading and analytic ability.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple responsibilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, multi-task and prioritize in a deadline-driven environment with exceptional attention to detail and great problem-solving skills.
• A team player mentality and the ability to build internal & external relationships with departments, authors, agents, and other stakeholders.
• Motivated, eager to learn, and resourceful, with the ability to solve problems creatively and proactively.
• Proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
