Editorial Assistant, Penguin Workshop (Open to Remote)

Penguin Workshop, an imprint of the Penguin Young Readers division, seeks a proactive and detail-oriented Editorial Assistant who will be an essential member of the editorial team, supporting the Editorial Director with daily administrative and editorial responsibilities. Our assistant will provide administrative support and act as a liaison between authors, agents, and different departments within the company.
This position offers a unique perspective on the strategy and operations of Penguin Workshop, home to beloved and engaging titles for every young reader, including picture books, board books, middle-grade fiction and nonfiction, Mad Libs, and the #1 New York Times best-selling Who Was? series. Penguin Workshop brings together award-winning authors and illustrators, world-famous brands and licenses, and best-selling series.
The motivated Editorial Assistant should have a knowledge of and appreciation for children's nonfiction and be ready to champion our books while working alongside a fun and fast-paced group. You'll work closely with colleagues in other departments within the division, especially our Publishing Office, Sales, Marketing, and Publicity groups. The role is ideal for someone who has an appreciation for biographies and middle-grade nonfiction. The editorial assistant will be a detail-oriented self-starter, a strong communicator, and an organized multitasker.

The Role:
• Provides general administrative support for the series within the imprint
• Coordinates administrative and editorial activity across brand channels
• Corresponds with authors, agents, and other professional contacts
• Writes cover copy, catalog copy, and title information sheets
• Writes web copy for the PRH website and external websites
• Completes photo and art research as necessary
• Prepares detailed and accurate art notes
• Prepares manuscripts for production after checking formatting, clarity of art notes, and sequence of all materials
• Tracks manuscripts through all stages of editing, design and production
• Assists with acquisition paperwork and profit & loss statements
• Attends regular editorial and creative meetings
• Works on other editorial projects as needed
The Essentials:
• A self-starter fluent in multitasking with impeccable attention to details
• A deadline-oriented administrator who is solution-focused and comfortable handling many projects at once
• Adaptable to all communication styles on both email and phone while keeping an inviting can-do attitude when collaborating with authors, illustrators, and in-house staff
• A foundation and passion for both creative and professional writing
• It is essential that the candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment and possesses a proactive and independent approach to problem-solving
• The ideal candidate is savvy and proficient in MS Office, particularly MS Outlook and Excel, as well as PowerPoint
• Experience in children's publishing or copywriting and editing is a plus, but not required to succeed in this role-we value a team player with a point of view and interest in nonfiction for ages 8-11 who also has a deep respect for authors and illustrators and their creative process.
The salary for this position is $48,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
