Pantheon was founded in 1942 by Helen and Kurt Wolff and began by publishing literature in translation. In the post-war decades, Pantheon emerged as the premiere home to major works of cultural commentary by such authors as Studs Terkel, Marguerite Duras, and Simone de Beauvoir. Today its star-studded roster of award-winning authors include Wole Soyinka, James Gleick, Margo Jefferson, Ha Jin, Ali Smith, Alexander McCall Smith, Heather Ann Thompson, Charles Yu, Marjane Satrapi, and Art Spiegelman.

Reporting directly to the Publisher for Pantheon and Schocken, the Publishing Assistant will be able to efficiently and thoughtfully manage a diverse set of administrative and publishing responsibilities, including all-around project support for the Publisher; ad-hoc support for the heads of Editorial, Marketing, and Publicity; and self-led project management for a variety of seasonal and title-specific publishing projects. This position will also act as a liaison between authors, agents, and departments within the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group.

We are looking for a detail-oriented, meticulous self-starter who is invested in learning about the publishing industry and being part of a collaborative team. The ideal candidate will be able to manage a diverse set of responsibilities efficiently and effectively and will have an interest in publishing across a wide range of projects, from non-fiction to fiction to graphic novels.

• Assist in ad-hoc projects as needed for other teams, including research, mailings, data entry, copywriting, and more

The Essentials:
• Exceptional attention to detail, the ability to prioritize, and strong follow-up skills
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask
• Strong communication skills, both verbal & written
• A team player with the ability to build internal & external relationships with departments, authors, and stakeholders
