The Pamela Dorman Books imprint of Penguin Random House is seeking an Editorial Assistant to support the SVP/Publisher and Senior Editor, in concert with the Associate Editor, on a list that includes upmarket, commercial fiction, and some nonfiction. Pamela Dorman Books has published more than thirty-two New York Times bestselling titles including Me Before You and Someone Else's Shoes by Jojo Moyes, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman, The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena, The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse, The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman, The Push by Ashley Audrain, The Love of My Life by Rosie Walsh, Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson, First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston, The Way of Integrity by Martha Beck, and Maria Shriver's I've Been Thinking. . ., as well as acclaimed authors including Natalie Baszile (Queen Sugar), J. Ryan Stradal (The Lager Queen of Minnesota, Kitchens of the Great Midwest, Saturday Night at the Lakeside Supper Club), Bea Setton (Berlin), and Clare Pooley (The Authenticity Project).
The Editorial Assistant:
• Provides strong administrative support to the SVP/Publisher and Senior Editor (manages calendars, routes files, handles mailings, etc.)
• Does first reads of submitted manuscripts, logs submissions, and writes reader's reports
• Learns editorial skills, including line and structural editing, under the guidance of the Publisher
• Writes and edits catalog, flap, and marketing copy; prepares title information sheets and other marketing materials
• Attends editorial meetings and all relevant imprint meetings
• Acts as a liaison between authors, agents, and other in-house departments
• Coordinates the editorial and production process
• Manages the imprint's social media and updates imprint website as needed
• Creates P&Ls and contract information sheets
• Collects sales data and provides competitive title research
• Manages paperback reprints with Associate Editor
Requirements:
• Prior office experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to manage a high-volume email inbox efficiently
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
• Exceptional attention to detail and follow-up skills
• Superb organizational skills
• Strong reading and analytic ability important, as well as ability to read quickly and accurately
• Ability to master corporate marketing tools/systems important
• Ability to take initiative and problem-solve creatively
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive
*This NYC-based role is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities, which include but are not limited to book mailings and in-office meetings.
