Penguin Random House, the leading publishing house globally, is hiring an Editorial Assistant working in children's and young adult books! Are you organized, detail-oriented, resourceful, and a voracious reader? Previous experience in the field, either via internships or other work experience, is a plus but absolutely not required, though having a keen interest in children's books is high up on the wish list.

You'll support an Editorial Director and an Executive Editor. You will provide administrative support and editorial backup for a wide range of titles, gaining practical bookmaking knowledge while being mentored in how editors choose, nurture, and promote the authors they work with. Responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:
• Reading and evaluating manuscripts, then writing reader reports for both submissions and books under contract
• Attending editorial meetings and offering creative input for the whole team
• Drafting of cover/flap and online copy, front matter, and Title Information (TI) sheets
• Tagging and formatting manuscripts, and assisting in reviewing books at different stages of production
• Performing administrative and clerical tasks such as ordering books for authors, applying for CIP Data with the Library of Congress, preparing copyright notices, drafting contract and payment requests
• Research for special and ad hoc projects, including photo research, market research, illustrator research, etc.
• Managing the schedules and tracking due dates for both Editors you support and advising of upcoming deadlines

We'd love to see that you have:
• A passion for children's and young adult literature and are an avid and thoughtful reader
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, especially as you'll be writing a lot of cover and flap copy and TI sheets!
• Excellent organizational skills, as you'll manage and prioritize multiple projects at the same time
• Strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Computer skills – MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Knowledge of the cultural landscape and the initiative to stay abreast of trends and conversations in the industry
