Job Description
The Viking Penguin imprint of Penguin Random House has an exciting opportunity for an Editorial Assistant to join their team in a hybrid capacity. The Assistant will provide administrative and editorial support to the Publisher of Penguin Books and the Editorial Director of Penguin Life, and will work on an array of nonfiction and fiction titles for Penguin Books, and wellness-centered nonfiction for Penguin Life. This position provides the opportunity to learn about the overall editorial process and the inner workings of a large publishing house.

Viking Penguin and Penguin Life authors include Ruth Ozeki, Tana French, Amor Towles, Adam Grant, Luvvie Ajayi Jones, Matt Haig, Elaine Welteroth, Sue Monk Kidd, Ken Follett, Johanna Basford, Keri Smith, Robert Greene, Jojo Moyes, and Daniel James Brown.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Providing administrative support to Publisher and Editorial Director.
• Overseeing the development of book projects from acquisition to publication.
• Assisting in the acquisitions process by logging, reading and evaluating submissions, and writing rejection letters.
• Coordinating schedules with the Editorial, Managing Editorial, and Production teams.
• Preparing manuscripts for production, routing and tracking contracts, and processing expense reports.
• Communicating between authors, agents, and a variety of internal departments, including Marketing, Publicity, Sales, Production, and Art.
• Preparing paperwork, including contract requests, profit and loss statements, and production memos.
• Writing title information sheets, online copy, and cover copy.
• Participating in editorial meetings.

• Ability to prioritize multiple assignments in a deadline-driven environment
• Ability to work independently as well as within a team
• Prior office experience required
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Prior office experience within publishing a plus
• Familiarity and/or interest in the current marketplace and an appetite for contemporary fiction and nonfiction, and the wellness market
• Prior publishing experience a plus
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proven ability to use available resources to problem solve
• Familiarity with social media platforms
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Salary for this position is $45,000.

The salary range listed is specific to each particular open position and takes into account various factors including the specifics of the individual role, and candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
