Editor – Razorbill Imprint
The Razorbill imprint within Penguin Young Readers is seeking a dynamic and passionate Editor who is excited about and experienced in commercial acquisition and editing. The ideal candidate has strong agent connections and knowledge of the children's market and can hit the ground running, bringing in a steady stream of titles, many with bestseller potential. We are excited to support this person as they quickly build a list of 8 or more titles per year (can include picture books and illustrated fiction as well). This person will report to the executive editor and can expect strong mentoring and community within the imprint.
Some titles you could have worked on are These Witches Don't Burn, Something Happened to Ali Greenleaf, and The Best Laid Plans.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Manage, acquire, and edit approximately 8 new books per year for the imprint, with an emphasis on commercial YA.
• Develop and maintain author and agent relationships with an eye toward a steady submissions stream (attend writers' conferences, scout new talent, liaise with authors and agents).
• Negotiate acquisitions with agents and authors.
• Present titles at internal meetings, including Launch, and elsewhere as required.
• Responsible for all editorial aspects of book development, including manuscript development and editing; copywriting including jacket, metadata, and other marketing copy as required.
• Produce internal selling sheets, P&Ls, and contract requests.
• Work closely with our art, marketing, publicity, sales, and subsidiary rights departments throughout the publishing process to bring the books to market.

• Minimum of 2-3 years of acquisition experience and structural and line-editing experience in fiction book publishing
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and demonstrate strong attention to detail and follow-up
• Excellent writing and copywriting skills
• Strong interpersonal skills including established relationships with literary agents
• Ability to think creatively and work as a team to create a well-rounded list
• Solid knowledge of the MG/YA marketplace
• Experience in negotiation and managing books through the editorial/production process
• Keep abreast of the field at large (read trade journals and competitors' books; be aware of trends in publishing and children's media so as to keep list up-to-date with the marketplace's needs and demands)
