Job Description

Penguin Random House is seeking a Director, Backlist Sales to support the Sales Department adult backlist efforts in order to increase revenue and market share. This position will work closely with the Sales teams, marketing teams and publishers to maximize the selling potential of a massive list of titles.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Sales Development, the Director will be responsible for independently generating industry analysis reports and interpreting data to best identify and create sales opportunities for the 100,000+ titles that make up the backlist across PRH's diverse publishing divisions and imprints, as well as that of Client Publishers.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Communicating with sales, marketing, and publishing teams to leverage data findings into sales opportunities.
• Often working in conjunction with the Sales Analysis team, the Director will generate reports and provide analysis in order to identify opportunities that will increase backlist title revenue.
• Maintaining, managing and updating the Backlist Vault -- a category focused website focused on bestselling backlist titles -- plus Edelweiss collections based on Backlist Vault title lists enabling a self-service resource for reps.
• Creating regular & reoccurring backlist updates designed to track current business and trends.
• Partnering with Consumer Marketing on various market analysis projects, the Director will provide guidance on title lists and trends.
• Maintaining a marketing calendar and updating / revising title collections seasonally.
• Creating category deep dives to identify opportunities for sales broadly, as well as for specific Sales channels.
• Responding to sales rep requests for backlist support.

• Minimum 7 years related experience in either data analysis, book sales, book marketing or book publishing
• Capacity for big-picture thinking and detailed follow-through
• Creative problem-solver with strong critical thinking skills
• Excellent analytical skills
• Superb written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to successfully manage and navigate internal relationships
• Highly organized with the ability to self-start and manage multiple competing priorities
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams
• Knowledge of Word Press, Business Objects and/or PowerBI, a plus
