Job Description
The Social Media Manager develops and oversees the development of content designed to grow vibrant communities of parents and caregivers of young children on PBS KIDS and member station social media platforms. The candidate also contributes to the overall social media strategy with the goal of driving discovery and awareness of PBS KIDS content, products, and initiatives.

The Social Media Manager collaborates with the content marketing team, teams across PBS KIDS, as well as internal and external content creators to deploy a creative, experimental and effective storytelling approach for PBS KIDS social media channels using text, images, graphics and videos. The ideal candidate is fluent in social media platforms and comfortable being in-front of the camera as well as behind the scenes. The manager will also collaborate with stations to reimagine how we deliver value to stations for local audience engagement on social media.

The Social Media Manager must be passionate about PBS KIDS' mission, engaging parents of young children, creating content and social media.

This is a grant funded position and is fully funded through 12/31/2024, and will be renewed on receipt of additional federal appropriations approval through 12/31/2025.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Spearhead the creation of compelling, engaging content, working with an internal production team and external content creators.
• Write and assign content briefs, providing storyboards and other detailed specifications for visual elements.
• Create and edit graphics and social-first video content.
• Innovate for the rapidly changing social media landscape by experimenting with new and trending content formats and storytelling techniques to maintain a fresh and captivating social media presence.
• Pioneer new ways to leverage social media platforms to build awareness of PBS KIDS games.
• Manage production workflow, including assigning projects to content creators, and reviewing content to ensure quality, adherence to social media best practices and goals alignment.
• Spearhead co-design of a social media engagement strategy with PBS member stations. The strategy will be designed to reach and engage parents in local stations' communities. Collaborate with the Senior Manager of Social Media and PBS KIDS teams to implement the strategy.
• Work closely with the creative, content, distribution and marketing teams to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to marketing campaigns.
• Keep up with the latest social media trends and emerging social media platforms.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements for success:
• 2-4 years of digital or social media marketing and/or communications experience
• In-depth knowledge of social media marketing best practices
• Experience writing, editing and creating videos and graphics for various audiences and social media platforms.
• Knowledge of video and graphic design software (Adobe)
• Experience with social media CMS software (Sprout Social) preferred
• Enthusiastic self-starter who is creative and curious
• Charismatic and engaging communicator
• Collaborative, diplomatic and calm under pressure
• Bachelors degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
