Manager, Social Media, PBS KIDS (Remote)

Status: Full-time/Regular/Exempt /Grant (This position is fully funded through September 30, 2023 and will be renewed based on receipt of additional federal appropriations approval.)

Supervisor: Senior Manager, Social Media, PBS KIDS

Position Overview:

PBS KIDS is dedicated to supporting children's learning, and we know kids learn best when the adults in their lives are part of the experience. The Manager, Social Media, PBS KIDS, develops and deploys social media content and engagement tactics as part of the Ready To Learn grant-funded initiative, with the overall goal of engaging parents and caregivers with resources that help their children learn and grow. They will also contribute to a multiplatform social media strategy, with the goal of driving discovery and awareness of PBS KIDS content, products, and initiatives that support intergenerational learning and engagement. The candidate must be passionate about PBS KIDS' mission, social media, and storytelling.

This position is funded by a Ready To Learn (RTL) grant from the US Department of Education to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and PBS, focused on promoting early learning and school readiness, with an emphasis on supporting children from low-income communities.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Collaborate with a cross-functional team to develop a multiplatform caregiver engagement strategy that leverages resources, including social-first content, developed for the Ready To Learn initiative.

• Develop and execute relevant, engaging social media tactics that build engagement with content and experiences for the grown-ups in the lives of PBS KIDS viewers (children ages 2-8), especially those in low-income communities.

• Manage the development of social-first video content that encourages intergenerational learning and engagement.

• Deploy a creative effective storytelling approach within each platform, working with the Senior Manager, Social Media, to develop and use tone, language, editorial positioning, and community guidelines for social media.

• Plan, monitor, and maintain presence on PBS KIDS' key social media channels (e.g. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest) that serve caregivers, in support of strengthening relationships with target audiences.

• Write, edit and gather other assets needed for social posts as well as SMS services. Develop and manage content calendars.

• Develop materials, webinars and other supports to serve stations, producers and other partners.

• As needed, support social media efforts at major events, conferences, meetings, and other public activities.

• Review and analyze data to help inform goals, benchmarks and tactics. Create weekly, monthly and quarterly reports to inform teams and stakeholders.

• Explore opportunities for PBS KIDS to experiment and grow on new and emerging social media platforms.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements for success:
• 2-4 years of digital or social media marketing and/or communications experience

• In-depth knowledge of social media marketing best practices and analytics, with a successful track record in managing social media accounts for high-profile organizations

• Excellent writing and editing skills, with experience tailoring content for various audiences and social media platforms.
• Ability to analyze data and to communicate findings to various internal and external stakeholders

• Enthusiastic self-starter who is creative and curious

• Collaborative, diplomatic and calm under pressure

• Bachelor degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent work experience)

• Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination required.
