Summary
At Pluto TV, we strive to deliver an equal entertainment experience to everyone, with universally-designed digital experiences that delight and entertain our viewers. The Compliance Operations team collaborates with our business partners to ensure that the principles of inclusion and accessibility are built into every product and experience. We help our partners within Pluto TV understand the importance of accessibility while advising teams on how to prioritize, design, build, and test our experiences to comply with accessibility standards. The Sr. Accessibility Architect will act as both a subject-matter expert in accessible platforms and a compliance expert. In the capacity of subject-matter expert on Pluto TV platforms, this role will partner with designers and developers to create new experiences – and enhance existing ones – that push the boundaries of inclusive design while staying mindful of the capabilities of each platform. Success will be held to a high standard due to Pluto TV's compliance obligations and the specialized nature of the subject area of digital accessibility. Additionally, you will assist in managing the closed captioning compliance program, interacting with Legal, Government Affairs, and in some cases external advocacy groups. This aspect of the position will require knowledge of closed captioning standards and federal regulations.
Responsibilities Include:
• Assume a lead practitioner role on behalf of accessibility for all Android platforms, including mobile, tablet, and Leanback environments
• Create and maintain processes and policies to manage accessibility across each stage of the digital product lifecycle (e.g., innovation, design, implementation, testing)
• Conduct product evaluations according to current Web Content Accessibility Standards (WCAG) and inclusive UX principles, and deliver results to product teams
• Based on assessment findings, assist engineering teams in resolving accessibility issues
• Through collaboration with design and engineering experts, author technical accessibility requirements for ongoing product feature work that meets and exceeds WCAG compliance standards
• Build working code prototypes to model optimal accessible user experiences on the Android platforms
• Establish and track ongoing mandatory accessibility training for design, testing, and engineering teams, and generate engagement reports from attendance and completion data
• Provide support and office hours as a subject matter expert (SME)
• Contribute to the development of metrics to assess and track the status of accessibility within and across Android mobile and TV products
• Lead brainstorming sessions, and design and development reviews to help solve problems
• Scale the Accessibility team by identifying areas of opportunity for growth
• Help oversee the strategic accessibility roadmap for the Pluto TV platform
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience in digital accessibility and compliance in the technology space
• 5+ years practical experience with accessibility testing best practices on web screen readers and Android Talkback, as well as text resizing, bluetooth keyboard compatibility, and visual UI standards
• 3+ years applying accessibility standards and tools to product development
• 2+ years of experience in Android mobile development (XML & Kotlin), with the ability to build apps from the ground up that incorporate accessible user experience principles.
• 2+ years integrating federal compliance requirements around closed captioning, audio description, and interface accessibility (i.e., WCAG)
• 2+ years working in Agile software development.
• Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience in User Experience, Computer Science, or a related field.
Additional Qualifications:
• Passion for product development and innovation
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Must have strong time management skills in order to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Previous experience at a large technology company is preferred
• Working experience with JIRA project management software
• Comfortable presenting ideas and designs to a group of passionate engineering peers
• Strong technical writing skills: ability to create compelling, detail-oriented documentation that sets up design, engineering, and testing teams for success
