Building on the work NPR has already done to create loyal listeners and viewers, the position of Senior Long Form Video Producer will help NPR move our organization in the direction of deeper, more meaningful visual content for our audience presented in a wider variety of places and platforms.

The Senior Long Form Video Editor will lead NPR's efforts to expand our audience by creating, publishing and distributing documentary and entertainment film content. Working with our visual journalists, as well as editorial teams across NPR and the network, this role will help us identify topics that further NPR's mission and create and execute production workflows to bring our long form storytelling to life. Additionally this individual will help us identify content and distribution partnerships that will assist and amplify our work

The Senior Long Form Video Editor will report to the VP of Visual and Music Strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead, define and oversee production of content storytelling long-form video content across the organization and network.
• Work with executive stakeholders from every editorial department to guide storytelling and content approaches in alignment with the NPR Visuals strategic vision.
• Oversee and directionally guide the visuals team in production of long form content – guide decision making, concept development, and feedback ensuring consistency and alignment to NPR Visuals strategy
• Manage production schedule of long form video content and work with internal departments in meeting various project deadlines
• Route edits for approvals, and prioritize, organize, and communicate notes to internal and external editors
• In conjunction with NPR Visuals management approve expenses, budgets, and contracts related to long form video projects; these approvals are done in conjunction with with the Finance, Legal, and Operations teams
• Build and manage relationships with long-form video distribution partners,
• Oversee external partners as needed as it relates to content production to align content to the NPR mission, identify and negotiate rates with production and post production service providers, and keep projects on track to overall strategy, budget and in alignment with NPR
• Work with NPR video producers and visual editors to find story ideas pitched from our audience

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree preferably in journalism, English, or writing-intensive discipline and/or equivalent work experience.

WORK LOCATION:

This is a remote permitted role. This role is based out of our DC office but the employee may choose to work on a remote basis from a location that NPR approves.

REQUIRED SKILLS
• Experience leading a creative team with 7+ year experience as a Producer, Creative Director or Video Director in an agency or media company
• At least five years of experience in journalism (digital, print and/or broadcast)
• Ability to direct all work, whether through external agencies, freelance vendors, or internal production resources, ensuring best-in-class work is delivered on time and within budget
• Experienced and well-versed in all facets of video production process
• Proven ability building and leading teams in a self-directed way
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to create and deliver presentations that articulate ideas in a compelling manner to build acceptance and support from executive stakeholders
• A relationship builder with proven ability to effectively collaborate, influence and make decisions in a partner driven, matrixed environment
• Empathetic leader with experience driving positive cultural change in growth situations
• Must be flexible to travel as required and work non-traditional hours
• Highly organized
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure
• Strong understanding of journalistic ethics. Experience maintaining high journalistic ethics and standards under deadline pressure, including standards of objectivity, balance and fairness.
• Experience with intellectual property issues involved in publications generally and Web publications in particular
• Ability to handle multiple and complex projects simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing priorities/conditions
• Proven ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public media system

This position is covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA. The minimum annualized salary for this position is $120,000.
