NPR is seeking a mission-driven individual to lead the business development function, leveraging NPR's trusted portfolio of news and culture brands, intellectual property, and broad audience reach to identify, build, and grow revenue generating and brand-enhancing initiatives. The Business Development group is a small, high-impact team within the Audience Growth division that partners with content leaders and employees across NPR to create new revenue opportunities to support NPR's mission. We're looking for a collaborative thought leader and committed people leader with a keen understanding of industry and consumer trends. This role will help guide our strategic business decisions, develop and implement transformative strategies to identify revenue growth opportunities, and negotiate new partnerships across our brands and platforms. You will collaborate with senior operational leaders throughout NPR to lead or support projects from concept to results.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide leadership in identifying, strategizing, and building business models for new opportunities that tap into the equity of NPR's brands and intellectual property to grow and diversify NPR's revenue streams.
• Create a prioritized proactive business development plan outlining areas of growth and focus.
• Analyze the competitive landscape and identify whitespace opportunities for NPR's brands
• Examine current initiatives and be a changemaker for areas that can grow significantly with investment or a modified approach.
• Utilizing a collaborative approach ensuring key internal stakeholders (news, programming, finance, legal, marketing, member partnerships, etc.) are consulted and informed.
• Partner with NPM team on sponsorship sales opportunities that leverage product and licensing
• Develop and lead 2+ experienced professionals across a variety of work, projects and new business opportunities including consumer products and services, e-commerce, licensing, retail, and strategic partnerships.
• Build external relationships and develop a filter through which to pass reactive opportunities to determine if they are worth further consideration
• Shepherd growth opportunities taking them from concept to market launch to scale with ongoing evaluation and assessment.
• Manage financial and operational models in support of new revenue projects and initiatives
• Work across the organization to get buy-in for our brand partnerships and licensing deals
• Oversee team managing our current product and partnership licensing lines of business
• Drive aspects of deal development, including prospecting potential partners, designing deal structures, negotiating and closing agreements
• Cultivates and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
• Cultivates and supports an inclusive and equitable workplace culture

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree

REQUIRED SKILLS
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in strategy/business development preferably in the media sector
• Specific experience with brand extensions, licensing, direct-to-consumer subscription products, strongly preferred
• Minimum of five (5) years of management experience
• Successfully demonstrated knowledge of media trends (traditional and digital), evolution of platforms/consumption, and business dynamics/models of media properties
• Strong financial analysis and modeling experience
• Effective negotiator with a strong command of contracts and experience working with legal professionals
• Experience in developing and implementing long-term business plans and strategies
• Demonstrated track record in successfully managing ambitious, strategic, and operationally complex projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams
• Emotional intelligence; ability to work well in a matrixed environment excellent communication
• An effective collaborator, mentor and motivator
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and success in supporting team development
