Job Description
OVERVIEW

NPR is seeking an experienced, audience-savvy multiplatform reporter to join its Newshub team. The reporter will cover stories across a range of beats and help design, test and implement new ways of telling stories in the digital age. They will be responsible for launching experiments and creating storytelling methods. They will be comfortable filing text stories as well as for other platforms and able to pitch everything from unique takes on the news of the day to counter-programming stories that engage audiences.

This is a union represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA. This is an NPR editorial role covered under the terms of the NPR Ethics Handbook. All editorial staff are bound by this guidance. Editorial staff are defined as staff members who play a role in shaping the journalistic or creative direction of NPR's content, including events.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Pitch, plan and report stories that meet NPR's emphasis on thoughtful reporting.
• Contribute original reporting across written, audio and video platforms, with a sophisticated understanding of how to tailor reporting to each platform.
• Consistently generate timely and thoughtful story ideas.
• Work with the Newshub team to generate ideas for new ways to tell stories across platforms.
• Collaborate with other parts of the NPR newsroom and network.
• Report on a tight deadline.
• Represent diverse views and voices in stories.
• Maintain the highest standards of accuracy, impartiality and inclusion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• At least five years' reporting experience.
• Demonstrated ability to report the same story across multiple platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to explain complex subjects for a general audience and bring characters alive in stories across platforms.
• Demonstrated ability in vertical video.
• Demonstrated experience experimenting with new ways of telling stories.
• Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to change in a daily, unpredictable news production environment.
• Commitment to detailed research and fact-checking.
• Ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system.
• Experience with and a commitment to working collaboratively with other journalists and reporting teams.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience with broadcast journalism
• Digital news and production skills
• Experience with video.
• Knowledge of AP style guidelines

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in work experience.

WORK LOCATION
• On-site: This is an on-site role based in Washington, DC .

JOB TYPE
• This is a full time, exempt position.

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: The US based anticipated salary range for this opportunity is 105,000-112,000 annually, plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salary NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.

Regular, full-time employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in NPR's benefits options.
