Job Description
OVERVIEW

NPR's Network Booking and Specials team is seeking an Editor I who is eager to deliver the freshest, most important stories to audiences as well as memorable interviews for NPR's daily newsmagazines and podcasts.

The Editor I develops and pitches timely story ideas for interviews and stories across NPR's flagship news programs and digital offerings and uses established connections to book timely, impactful, and memorable interviews. The Editor I provides editorial and logistical support to show teams preparing for interviews. The Editor I also offers editorial guidance to NPR's platforms about interviews and guests while upholding NPR's standards and practices. The Editor I must be available to work a variety of shifts.

This is a union represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with (select one) SAG-AFTRA.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Tracks ongoing flow of news and recommends specific stories, guests and areas of coverage.
• Executes cross-platform strategy around network priority interviews, cultivating sources, and working closely and collaboratively with stakeholders from inception to completion of booking process.
• Researches possible guests and conducts preliminary interviews remotely or in person
• Maintains external relationships with sources, potential show/podcast guests, and experts for short term and long term booking opportunities
• Maintains internal relationships with other members of the program staff and contributors and with other NPR program and desk staff.
• Partners with special coverage team during planned and unplanned breaking news events to edit special coverage, ensuring scripts are accurate, timely, and compelling.
• Coordinates with the Executive Producer of Network Booking and Specials to ensure the best possible guests are booked and available for the shows during Special Coverage.
• Works various shifts, as assigned.
• Available to travel for breaking news and for booking or specials opportunities as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Journalism, or writing-intensive discipline and/or equivalent work experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum 4 years of experience in booking and editorial interview planning in a newsroom

WORK LOCATION
• Hybrid Permitted: This is a hybrid permitted role. Some aspects of this role include duties that are better performed at an NPR facility. The employee will be required to be onsite at either the Washington, DC, Culver City or New York City office at least 10 days a year. The employee must also reside in an NPR supported location based on the number of onsite days they choose.

REQUIRED SKILLS
• Ability to stay organized and communicate effectively with both internal and external partners remotely and in person
• Familiarity with/ability to log and create cards in NPR's newsroom organization platform (Nexus)

JOB TYPE
• This is a full time, exempt position.

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: The US based anticipated salary range for this opportunity is $97,500-$105,000 plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salaries NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
