Job Description
OVERVIEW

Millions of listeners depend on Morning Edition and Up First to set the news agenda that starts their day. We deliver the latest international and national news stories paired with analysis to help put those headlines in context. Morning Edition is also a platform for accountability through interviews with government officials and decision-makers who create or influence policy that affect people's lives. The show also features culture stories about music, movies and books that bring joy and provoke thoughtful conversations about who we are in this world.

We are in search of an experienced broadcast journalist who can curate thoughtful and surprising host interviews with the most sought-after authors in the book industry.

These audio interviews must be timely, ambitious, animated and diverse in topic, ideology and identity. This candidate must have broad and varied interests in genres and topics. They should be interested and attentive to the news cycle, and should understand the needs and wants of various audiences on multiple platforms or mediums.

An Editor III, in this specific position, evaluates pitches from hosts and staff, as well as from publicists and maintains good relationships with them. They have discerning, editorial judgment and are responsible for upholding the show's and NPR's editorial vision and standards while curating Morning Edition's book coverage. They will maintain an editorial calendar in coordination and collaboration with show managers and senior producers, as well as other departments at NPR such as our culture desk, digital teams, media relations and more. They will pitch, chase, schedule, script and edit interviews with the goal of having about one book interview in the show a week.

The Editor III will split their time between book interviews and daily, general news assignments such as booking and editing an interview or story for the next day's show. We are seeking an Editor III candidate with skills and interest in Latino culture, politics and issues who may be assigned to work on those types of stories instead of a general news assignment when they are not working on a book assignment.

A successful candidate is a strong, multi-platform editor who can frame conversations and offer structural input and line edits when working on stories and interviews with hosts for radio and digital platforms.

This is a union represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA.
