This position gives the candidate an opportunity to cover both a Big Ten team and high school sports. WCIA 3 is the 'Official TV station of Illinois Athletics' and we take that seriously, traveling to every football and men's basketball game, both home and away. From a pregame show to our podcast, streaming every postgame press conference live, we go above and beyond setting the standard for the market. Sports is a big deal for our viewers and we reflect that in our approach, both on-air and on digital. This position also focuses on shooting and storytelling but there will be opportunities to anchor. Our main emphasis is telling stories through strong character building, using great video and sound, all while working on tight deadlines. We also prioritize going live, so expect to be an MMJ using a TVU, to generate and turn daily content for air and digital.''

Essential duties:
• Produces and presents sports reports for all platforms
• Ensures that all sports content meets station standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
• Writes and delivers sports stories in a clear and concise manner
• Assists in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating sports content
• Responds to breaking sports events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required
• Works closely with the sports team to develop comprehensive sports coverage
• Participates in promotional activities including public appearances
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
• Shoots video for sports reports
• Maintains video equipment
• Edits video clips for television broadcasts and digital content
• Writes stories for the website and other digital platforms
• Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites

Requirements & Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• Comprehensive knowledge of sports and sports related activities
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Superior on-air presence
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Valid driver's license
• Flexibility to work any shift
