Job Description
WOOD-TV is looking for an aggressive, innovative, and creative news producer to join our team. This role puts you on the cutting edge of journalism in West Michigan. You'll produce TV newscasts. And you'll coordinate the development of original content programs and breaking news coverage on the WOODTV+ streaming platform. You need to be a dynamic writer. You also need to be a calming voice in high stress situations. The Producer, under the guidance of the Executive Producer, organizes and writes the on-air newscast, deciding the order in which stories will be told and how each story will be presented, all under strict deadlines. You'll also lay out a plan for streaming programs we air daily on WOODTV+. Candidates must be willing to work overnights and weekends.
Additional Job Description:
• Produces newscasts for broadcast across all platforms.
• Writes and orders news stories.
• Approves scripts.
• You will contribute to the editorial process and make solid decisions in breaking news situations.
• Balances news and feature content to create compelling broadcasts.
• Builds rundowns for WOODTV+.
• Operates the OBS equipment in the WOODTV+ studio.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• Fluency in English.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• We prefer one year experience in news operations.
• Must be able to interact well with reporters/MMJs, anchors, photojournalists, news managers, production and engineering staff.
• Detail oriented.
• Strong news judgment, journalistic integrity and understanding of viewer needs and expectations.
• Utilize state-of-the-art television technology. Experience with ENPS, BitCentral, Premiere and OBS a plus.
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Schedule to include evenings and weekends.
