Newscast Director

Job Description

NewsChannel 9 has an immediate full-time opening for a Newscast Director. Candidate must be hard-working, dependable, takes initiative and remains cool under pressure. Candidate will work all crew positions during evening weekdays. Candidate must always be professional, able to work well with co-workers and station guests.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for calling and executing quality, mistake free newscasts, leading the production team during a show.
• Coordinates the efforts of all technical operators during newscasts and other live and recorded productions
• Supervises and assigns duties to workers engaged in technical control and production of programs
• Observes pictures through monitors and directs camera/video staff concerning composition
• Able to work well with the news producer to craft quality showcasing moments.
• Acts as a liaison between engineering and production departments
• Works with the news producers to deliver a clean and high energy newscast
• Trains camera and CG operators on the proper operation during live broadcasts
• Switches video sources and given direction at the same time during live broadcasts
• Tests equipment to ensure proper operation
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills:
• High school diploma and at least a 2-year college degree
• Fluency in English
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Minimum two to four years' experience in news operations and production.
• Previous directing experience a MUST.
• Will work evenings (3pm-midnight), directing the 11:00 show, and fill-in directing or production crew on earlier shows in the afternoons.
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
• Proficiency with broadcast control equipment
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The Newscast Director must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work near others, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Repetitive movements are required.
