The News Anchor serves as the primary presenter of news stories and other content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers.
27 News Topeka is seeking an experienced journalist to join our team as the Morning News Anchor. This is a dynamic opportunity to lead our morning newscasts, which simulcast on NBC and ABC weekdays, while also contributing to content for our evening newscasts.
We're looking for a hands-on anchor who can lead by example, mentor younger staff and actively shape our morning news coverage. The ideal candidate will be a community-minded team player, passionate about storytelling and dedicated to engaging viewers as they start their day.

Key Responsibilities
• Anchor weekday morning newscasts and contribute to evening news content.
• Take an active role in newsgathering across all platforms (broadcast, digital, and social.)
• Develop compelling stories with strong live shots, creative graphics and engaging content.
• Produce newscasts as needed, demonstrating leadership and teamwork.
• Coach and mentor less-experienced reporters and producers.
• Actively engage with viewers on social media and during public appearances.
• Cover breaking news and urgent newsroom situations with urgency and authority.
• Participate in community events and represent the station as a local leader.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 2 years of professional on-air anchoring or reporting experience; producing experience is preferred.
• Superior on-air presence, excellent communication skills and the ability to ad-lib effectively.
• Strong journalistic integrity, news judgment and knowledge of local and national current events.
• Proficiency in newsroom technology and digital platforms.
• Valid driver's license and flexibility to work any shift.
