Job Description
The Executive Producer/Managing Editor assists in running the day-to -day operations of the newsroom. WPRI in Providence, Rhode Island is looking for a proven newsroom leader who thrives in breaking news coverage and winning the big story.
• Edits news copy and works closely with producers and reporters on story elements and story development
• Manages daily news content; ensures continuity and accuracy
• Thrives in covering breaking news, weather, and in-depth stories
• Manages daily newscasts / news story coverage
• Coaches and supervises producers, reporters, assignment editors
• Assists in developing and managing detailed coverage plans
• Supports a positive work environment
• Assists in reviewing copy for compliance with brand, policies, style, and tone
• Implements best practices, workflows, tools, and templates to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of the editorial process
• Works with other news management to establish and reach station goals
• Assists with the management of content compliance for digital/social platforms
• Resolves issues as they arise
• Schedules employees
• Requirements & Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• Strong writing skills and editorial judgment
• Providence / New Bedford market knowledge is a plus
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Excels at writing and showcasing news content on television
• Manages multiple assignments in a high pressure, breaking news environment
• Strong journalistic skills and news judgment
• Min. 3 years' experience as news producer or assignment editor
• Willing to work extra hours on short notice
Work Environment: Deadline driven environment can be stressful. Must be willing and able to work any and all shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays and be on call as needed.
