WPRI in Providence, RI (DMA 56) seeks an Investigative Reporter for its Target 12 team who excels at enterprising impactful local stories. This reporter will go deeper on day-of and breaking news stories, while at the same time pursuing longer-term special reports. As an MMJ, this reporter will be able to shoot and edit their own stories as well as write stories for our website that adhere to AP style.

This reporter will be deeply versed in local as well as national news, always scouting for story ideas and ready to dive in when news breaks. They will be engaged in the community they cover and experienced at cultivating sources. They will be resourceful, independent and conscientious, able to pilot their own stories from start to finish.

The Investigative Reporter reports to the Managing Editor of Target 12 and must have a collegial, supportive relationship not only with the rest of the investigative unit but the entire 12 News newsroom. In addition to proficiency with video production and visual storytelling, this reporter must be comfortable using WordPress or a similar web CMS, and must know how to maintain an active but professional social media presence.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent experience. Fluency in English. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Minimum three years' experience in news reporting. Superior on-air presence. Proficiency with broadcast and digital tools. Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Work Environment/Mental/Physical Requirements

This position requires the operation of camera, camera equipment, computer and editing machine, and transport of equipment weighing up to 60 lbs. High stress environment with deadline pressures. Travel will be required on a regular basis. Work may be performed in extreme outdoor temperatures. A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
