Job Description
The Nexstar Washington, DC, bureau is in search of a talented, self-starting producer who wants to report on all aspects of the Federal government. The position is based in Washington, DC.

The Producer works with the Bureau Chief, Executive Producer, and DC Bureau reporters and photographers to discover, report, write, and edit compelling stories for Nexstar's 100+ local TV/Digital newsrooms.

Job Responsibilities:
• Develops and pitches stories
• Develops contacts and sources on Capitol Hill, in the White House, and federal agencies
• Gathers news from lawmakers and other government officials
• Sets up and/or conducts interviews in person and via Zoom, etc
• Approves reporter scripts
• Produces reporter packages, vo/sots, teases
• Watches news events, selects and edits video and sound for package elements and the DC Bureau news feed
• Communicates with DC Bureau, NewsNation, Digital, and local TV colleagues via Email, Teams, and the DC Daybook
• Writes stories for digital platforms
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications Requirements:
• 5+ years producing experience; College degree in broadcast journalism, broadcast news, or related field preferred
• Local TV newsroom experience helpful
• Excellent writing, copy-editing, and script-doctoring skills
• Extensive interest in current events
• Exceptional editorial skills and the ability to recognize and report compelling stories
• Must have strong collaborative spirit in a fast-paced deadline-driven news environment.
• Proficient in Adobe Premiere or other non-linear editing
• Enthusiasm for the latest in digital video technology
• Experience as a local TV show producer, field reporter, field producer, photographer helpful
