Assistant News Director

Job Description

KOLR10/Ozarks FOX in Springfield, Missouri is looking for an Assistant News Director to lead our daily coverage and manage long-term special projects. The Assistant News Director will challenge the newsroom to dig deeper, promote great storytelling and help to foster a positive newsroom culture.
• Runs the day-to-day operations of the News Department.
• Assists with planning, staffing, training, and performance evaluations.
• Consults on decisions regarding hiring and promotion of employees.
• Sets clear expectations, follows through and holds employees accountable.
• Works closely with reporters, reading and approving all scripts and live shots.
• Critiques newscasts daily to improve coverage and provide feedback to the team.
• Assigns projects and verifies that goals are being met on-time, every time.
• Manages employee scheduling and time off.

Requirements & Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• Fluency in English.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to effectively listen to fully understand employee needs and communicate with a team.
• Newsroom leadership experience preferred.
• Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
