Job Description
The Nexstar Stations Group News Feed (Aggregated Content Team, or ACT) is in search of a talented, experienced, self-starting producer. This is a new position. The producer will be based in the KTVX Nexstar Salt Lake City, UT, newsroom.
The Producer reports to the Nexstar ACT Executive Producer, and works with Nexstar ACT, NewsNation, Nexstar DC Bureau, and Nexstar local news producers to discover and share compelling stories within the Nexstar family of TV, Digital, and 24-hour network news platforms. The Producer will also occasionally travel to breaking news and planned special events to act as a video producer, field producer, or Producer in Charge.
Job Responsibilities:
• Communicates with Nexstar local TV newsrooms, NewsNation, and Digital producers via Email, Teams, messaging, telephone, and the Nexstar ''Daybook'' assignment platform.
• Identifies stories of national and regional interest produced by Nexstar and NewsNation journalists and aggregates these stories to a central site for easy access by local markets.
• Watches news events, then selects and edits video and sound for distribution.
• Responds to breaking news events by identifying live feeds and arranging for look lives, pkgs, and tape feeds from the local station.
• Participates in planning, production, and communication efforts for special events coverage.
• Manages live shot opportunities.
• Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications Requirements:
• 5+ years local newsroom experience. College degree in journalism, broadcast journalism, or related field preferred.
• Interest in and enthusiasm for breaking news, political news, current events, and news features.
• Exceptional editorial skills and the ability to recognize compelling stories.
• Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
• Must have a collaborative spirit in a fast-paced deadline-driven news environment.
• Proficient in Adobe Premiere or other non-linear editing
• Enthusiasm for the latest in digital video technology
• Experience as a local TV show producer, writer, field reporter, field producer, or photographer desirable.
• Excellent writing, copy-editing, and script-doctoring skills
