Job Description
Netflix is seeking an experienced Technical Director to join us in delivering the next generation of video games for a worldwide audience. This role is part of the founding team of leaders who will drive the development of new games on our platform. Through a partnership with other game studio leaders, external developers, and cross-functional teams, the Technical Director will create and oversee a technical roadmap for internal studios and external developers that meshes with the platform plans, work with the Netflix platform teams to create/implement the capabilities/features our stakeholders need (members, 1st party studios, and 2nd/3rd party developers), compile and share best practices for engineering at game studios and external developers, create and vet specific game and studio technical plans, be the bridge between the Netflix engineering teams and the studio and external developer technical teams, and debug/solve problems with specific games, studios, and developers. More broadly, the Technical Director will influence the development of technology and our platform to successfully serve our games to our members.

This role will report to the Head of Games and partner closely with the Head of Studios, Head of Game Operations, Head of External Game Development, and the existing Netflix Product and Engineering organizations.

Responsibilities:
• Deeply understand what internal studios and external developers need in order to deliver great games on the platform and the corresponding technical requirements, strategies, plans, best practices, and inflection points
• Work closely with the Netflix platform teams and other cross-functional organizations to make sure that the capabilities and features our studios, developers, and members need are recognized and implemented
• Create and manage an overall technical roadmap for internal studios and external developers that meshes with the platform roadmap (and work with the platform teams to harmonize the roadmaps)
• Work with internal studios and 2nd/3rd party developers to create and vet project and studio technical plans
• Be the bridge between the studio and developer teams and the Netflix platform and cross-functional teams
• Debug and solve technical problems with specific games, studios, and developers (and/or the intersection of platform and individual projects)
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to studios and developers
• Audit the technical quality of emerging technologies and integrations
• Identify and mitigate all technical risks for the various stakeholders, including internal studios and external partners
• Be the technical ''spirit guide'' for new studios or external developers
• Develop the plan for moving from individual technical competence and knowledge (held by studios, developers, and/or cross-functional teams) to institutional competence and knowledge across the organization
• Ensure stakeholders and customers are informed on progress in terms of what commitments have been made and how the execution of initiatives and milestones is going

Requirements:
• 10+ years of technical leadership experience in the AAA, casual, and/ or mobile gaming industry
• Solid experience in mobile game development (doesn't have to be all mobile, all the time, but should have demonstrated ability as a technical leader on mobile projects or in a mobile studio)
• Minimum 2 full project cycles of experience managing at a Technical Director capacity, running multiple mobile projects or a large triple-A project in the gaming industry
• Experience with defining and leading platform initiatives
• Extensive experience with a breadth of programming languages and tools (e.g. game engines) used in game development as well as with various development methodologies and their applications (e.g. Agile, etc.)
• Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally
• Demonstrated experience in working through influence across organizations large and small
• Technical and product judgment required to improve product quality as well as technical productivity
• Ability to identify risks early and often and suggest mitigation strategies that are thought through and consider multiple paths to a solution
• Exceptional communication and leadership skills
• B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent-masters preferred
• Passion for making video games
