ENGINEERING AT NIGHT SCHOOL

Coding is just as creative as other roles at Night School. Our engineering team highly values cross-disciplinary thinking. Creating great gameplay experiences requires engineers to not only imagine elegant, extensible, and optimized systems, but also to appreciate, communicate, and integrate with matters of art, design, and narrative. Here, you'll flex your ingenuity and skill in multiple areas as needs arise, whether directly in our games, as part of a development support system, or as part of our in-house storytelling toolset, NightTools.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for a Technical Director to lead engineering efforts and drive the future of technology at Night School Studio. The TD will partner closely with the rest of the core leadership team and other team members to iterate towards visionary new games, from concept to completion. This role will manage and mentor a talented team of engineers to write code, build and maintain tools, define workflows and asset pathways, quickly achieve gameplay prototypes, and ultimately oversee shipping and support of games by Night School Studio.

The ideal candidate should be excited about rolling up their sleeves and having a direct hand in creating the game, as well as overseeing a strong, empowered engineering team. They should have full game development cycle experience, and well-developed gameplay and design sensibilities. They are able to implement in the short term and bring industry-leading technical expertise, looking forward to larger engineering, architecture, and technology selection.

Responsibilities
• Games development:Interpret game design documentation and work with Engineering team to distill vision into core game features,Oversight of experimentation and prototyping of new game mechanics in narrative focused gameplay,implement new features within Unity and extend existing functionality
• Technical Leadership: Lead the team to make technology and architecture decisions for both prototyping and a successful future final and live product. Experience and comfort with shifting and in-progress technologies and platforms. Facilitate code reviews and encourage elegant solutions
• Team Leadership: Build, manage, and mentor all Engineers at the studioAble to work across disciplines with minimum process to organize work and create predictability in an unpredictable space.

Skills and Experience
• 10+ years of experience shipping multiple games
• Experience prototyping and/or shipping one or more titles as a Technical Director or Lead Engineer, splitting time hands-on and supporting people as a manager, with a focus on excellent player experience
• Exceptional communication, cross-discipline collaboration, and leadership skills
• Desire to contribute to world class narrative-focused games

Bonus Skills
• Strong product/design sense
• Strong understanding of lightweight production/team process
• Experience working with early or unreleased game platforms
• Full stack/backend services expertise

The overall market range for roles in this area of Netflix is typically $150,000 - $500,000
