Job Description

Senior Game Engineer (Common Tech) - Games

Senior Game Engineer
Who We Are
From games on TV to mobile and web, Next Games is a Netflix first-party studio that develops approachable games to entertain a diverse, global audience.
We design games that Netflix members can enjoy every day as part of their subscription. Our games released on Netflix to date include TV games Boggle Party, Pictionary Game Night, Party Crashers: Fool Your Friends, and Underwatermelon, as well as Netflix Puzzled, available on mobile devices and on tudum.com.
We proudly combine our Finnish game development culture with Netflix's global entertainment culture, embracing the strengths of both and empowering our talented and diverse teams to deliver their best work yet.
The Role
As a Senior Game Engineer (Shared Tech), you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the core technology that powers all our Unity games and controllers. You'll collaborate with multiple game teams, understanding their unique needs and technical stacks, and develop generalized solutions that can be adopted across the studio, such as controller-to-game messaging or generic lobby behavior.
You'll join a team that oversees technical aspects of our live and in-development games, ensuring seamless live operations and collaborating with both internal and external partners. This role is hands-on: you'll write production code, architect features, and directly contribute to the quality and stability of our codebase. Expect to spend around half of your time on hands-on development and the other half on architecture, coordination, and reviews. Efficient communication with stakeholders plays a key role, and you will be driving conversations on a regular basis to align on actions.
We have a hybrid way of working, so you will have flexibility working between our office in Helsinki and your home office in Finland.
The ideal engineer for this role is highly autonomous, a great communicator, and a collaborator. They have demonstrated the capability to drive technological innovation, and they have worked in leadership roles for several game projects. They are able to drive process improvements within the team(s), are responsive to the concerns of players and stakeholders across the organization, and are able to balance innovation risks and opportunities against release schedules and an ambitious project scope.

Responsibilities
• Drive cross-team technology: Identify, design, and implement shared systems and tools used by multiple game teams.
• Lead technical efforts on live games: Oversee ongoing support, live operations, and technical handovers.
• Own features and systems: From architecture to implementation, ensure high-quality, maintainable code.
• Collaborate: Work with engineers, designers, producers, and external partners to align technology with business and creative goals. Manage and align stakeholders across the studio and technical teams.
• Solve problems: Diagnose and resolve performance, stability, and scalability issues.
• Document and communicate: Maintain clear technical documentation and communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Skills and Experience
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Math, or Engineering
• Professional experience in game development using Unity3D, Unreal or another game engine
• Strong knowledge of C#
• Experience in professional, team-based software development with shipped product(s) and having worked on a live product
• Strong communication skills: you can explain your ideas to other engineers, designers, and producers, and you're comfortable building consensus. Proficiency in English is required.
• Experience in web development is a plus but not required
The Team
We are prioritizing flexibility and innovation on a new technology stack and platform. Our game teams come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, and have a fun and open dynamic.
