Freelance Production Assistant, Olympic Games

Responsibilities

PLEASE NOTE: This is a project / limited term position with an estimated duration of 1 month during Games Time, unless otherwise amended or terminated as deliverables within this project are completed.

Role Purpose:
Production assistants during the Olympic Games fall into three general roles: Production, Digital, and Research. This posting covers all three. The Production Assistant will work with the relevant teams to help deliver live and same day delay event coverage during the Olympic Games.

Responsibilities:

Production Assistant – General Production & Research
• Assist production personnel in all phases of Olympic sports production in both live control room and edit environments.
• Report to the show producer/associate producer and execute tasks needed to finalize and deliver shows for broadcast.
• Assist producers and editors in locating and organizing footage and music.
• Contribute to edit sessions to help create show elements, including b-roll, highlights, and graphics.
• Proactively develop and communicate ideas to improve broadcasts.

Production Assistant – Graphics
• Research and build a variety of on-air graphic elements.
• Work with Chyron operator to deliver graphics in a live control room and to a post-production environment.
• Assist production personnel in all phases of Olympic sports production
• Report to the show producer/associate producer and execute tasks needed to finalize and deliver shows for broadcast.
• Proactively develop and communicate ideas to improve broadcasts.

Production Assistant – Digital
• Assist in the production of 300 plus daily video highlights from every Olympic sport and event to be published across all our NBC sports platforms and partners
• Find, clip, and organize material for editors, from both live and archival Olympic events.
• Cut simple highlight sequences as assigned. Assist and source music from NBC's Frequency music database.
• Create lower thirds and other simple graphics. Assist with export and digital publishing of finished videos.

Production Assistant – Research
• Must be able to research and identify notable athletes and key storylines throughout broadcasts

Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Eligibility Requirements:
• Ability to work the full duration of the Olympic Games
• Willingness to work overtime, overnight hours, weekends
• Must be willing to work in Stamford, CT
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
• Must be 18 years or older

Desired Characteristics

Desired Characteristics:
• Prefer one (1) year experience in Sports Video Production, preferably in live control room and in post-production environments
• Candidates should be versatile, self-motivated, energetic
• Extremely organized; attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
• Have a familiarly with, and interest in, Olympic sports
• Strong knowledge and interest in sports television production
• Ability to learn and apply new skills/processes quickly
• Multi-task and manage a variety of responsibilities on a day-to-day basis
• Work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Excellent communication ability
• Strong research skills and editorial instincts
• For Graphics Production Assistant only: Minimum one (1) year graphics experience in Sports Television Production, preferably in live control room and in post-production environments
• Familiarity with AVID post-production workflow
• For Digital Production Assistant only: Minimum one (1) year experience with Avid, Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier editing system
• Working knowledge of Avid Media Central or similar video archive system
• Strong knowledge of Photoshop photo editing program
• Strong knowledge of Olympic sports as well as current sports landscape and historical knowledge of major sports
• Proficiency at identifying best shots and soundbites
• Familiarity with basic computer tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Internet research
• General sense of Web content management systems
