Job Description
The NBC News Health Unit produces content and directs related editorial for all NBC News platforms, including broadcast, streaming and digital. The Producer will work with the Health and Medical Unit and have a variety of editorial and logistical responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
• Conceive, research and pitch day-of-air segments, original feature stories and long-form enterprise series for NBC News's broadcast and digital platforms.
• Independently shoot, write and produce live and tape health and medical segments
• Regular contribution of medical and health related digital reports and content
• Collaborate with broadcast and digital reporters, producers and correspondents on editorial and logistics for health and medical segments
• Deliver quick and accurate analysis of complicated medical studies with big-picture understanding for a national audience
• Monitor daily breaking stories and medical studies to determine broadcast worthiness
• Maintain valuable relationships with top hospitals and government health agencies
• This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of 3 days per week.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or relevant course of study, or equivalent experience
• At least 5 years of relevant television or digital production
• Must have experience in producing stories, including researching, writing, and shooting
• Possess a strong understanding of the medical industry and current trends
• Ability to review and comprehend medical journal data
• Must be willing to travel as needed
• Able and willing to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news
• Must be willing to work in NYC
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
Desired Qualifications:
• A proven track record in medical/health news
• Possess ability to develop story ideas, research, and plan segments
• Exceptional editorial skills: Ability to recognize stories with high potential for compelling content
• Strong writing skills
• Editorial knowledge of health/medical stories
• Strong time management skills
