Responsibilities
WMAQ-TV, the NBCUniversal station in Chicago, is looking for a News Reporter responsible for gathering and preparing news stories the station's broadcast and digital platforms. Reporter will also fill in as Anchor on occasion, as assigned.
The ideal candidate will:
• Cover news stories as assigned by the local news department management and report the facts on the station's newscasts, recorded programs, and other live broadcasts, either in the studio or on location.
• Contribute news stories and ideas to the station's digital platforms, including the station website.
• Be able to communicate on-air effectively during live broadcasts, fast-changing news environments, special events and breaking news, maintaining confidence, composure, and credibility.
• Ability to write television news copy combining the script with video
• Adhere to the highest journalistic standards, including accuracy, fairness, and balance.
• Edit or supervise the editing of video used in conjunction with news stories and programs.
• Write scripts, lead-ins, cues, and bridges as requested by producers or management.
• Make appearances before social and civic groups, schools, and colleges on behalf of the station.
• Fill in as anchor on station's newscasts
Qualifications
• Minimum 3 years of on-air television experience covering news as a TV Reporter and/or a News Anchor.
• Minimum 4-year college degree in Journalism, communications, or related broadcast field.
• Able to travel, work longer hours with short notice and work varied schedules during the week and weekends when necessary.
• Must be willing to work in Chicago, Illinois.
• This is an AFTRA-union represented position and union membership in good standing will be required upon hire if not currently a member.

• Knowledge of Chicago area and Chicago-area news, events, government and communities.
• Well versed in a wide variety of subjects to include local, state, and national affairs.
• Ability to edit video.
• Ability to communicate with and work well with people under constant pressure of deadlines.
• Ability to make sound news judgments and decisions regarding news stories with the highest integrity.
• Ability to proudly represent the station at community events as an emcee or participant.
• Bilingual skills in English and Spanish with the ability to speak and write fluently in both languages.
