Responsibilities

NBC Philadelphia is looking for a Multiplatform Managing Editor to help craft and implement digital strategy, lead breaking news coverage, assist in streaming production, manage social media presence and strategy, and edit stories and videos for NBC10.com, Telemundo62.com, NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com, and our apps. The Multiplatform Managing Editor must have excellent editing, writing and organizational skills as well as experience in telling stories through videos, photos and multimedia packages. This editor must actively and consistently communicate as news develops, collaborating with our broadcast producers on thorough, up-to-the-minute coverage on all platforms.

We also seek an editor who is comfortable using social media for reporting and disseminating information to engage the community and grow audience and loyalty. The right candidate will be attuned to the latest trends in journalism and emerging platforms for reporting the news.

Responsibilities
• Work closely with the Senior Director of Digital and other senior managers as well as reporters, anchors and producers to report, write and edit news stories, photos and videos on NBCU's Philadelphia websites, apps, streaming channels, linear broadcasts, social media, YouTube, OTT and other platforms
• Help manage a team of digital journalists working on 24/7 deadlines to update stories, around the clock and on weekends
• Execute all publishing workflows for video, images and text, including publishing to social media platforms
• Enforce editorial style guides, standards and practices
• Experience with video editing and production, specifically as it pertains to digital and streaming platforms
• Participate in efforts to meet daily benchmarks for the volume and frequency of local content publication
• Use superior news judgment and solid breaking news writing and editing skills in order to manage multiple breaking news stories at once
• Use social media as a promotional tool as well as a news-gathering tool and a listening post for breaking news and emerging trends
• Move stories across platforms, developing web stories for the broadcast and broadcast stories for the web
• Track Chartbeat, Crowd tangle and other real-time traffic metrics to grow audience and identify stories
• Help train and lead staff on digital tools and skills

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements
• Minimum 5 years experience in news gathering, news production, news writing, and/or digital news platform production
• Experience as an editor, writer or producer at a major news organization that creates content under tight deadlines
• Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism or related field or equivalent work experience required
• Must be quick to react to breaking news, updating the news as stories evolve and writing intros and ledes to video content online
• Ability to work on a team and across all departments and locations
• Experience working with content management systems
• Must have a sophisticated understanding of social media platforms and strategy
• Must possess excellent interpersonal communications skills and a can-do mentality an unexpected challenges arise
• Must have the desire to work in a creative, demanding, competitive environment
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends and extended days when demanded by breaking news or other editorial responsibilities
• Ability to generate new ideas for content and contribute to discussions of overall department strategy

Eligibility Requirements
• Must be willing to work in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
• Must be able to work weekends, long hours, holidays and/or varying shifts when necessary to meet production and broadcast deadlines

Desired Characteristics
• Experience working in the Philadelphia area with a deep institutional knowledge of the local coverage area, including an understanding of the city's sports culture
• Strong desire to deliver news as it develops on all platforms
• Multimedia experience (video and photos)
• A sense of urgency and desire to learn emerging technologies
• Strong journalistic skills
• Ability to write, edit and produce under heavy deadline pressure without compromising accuracy or credibility
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
• Team player mentality
