Responsibilities
WMAQ-TV is looking for an experienced, skilled meteorologist to anchor and produce weather segments across all content platforms, including on-air and the station's website.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
• Gather and prepare weather information for on-air presentation in the WMAQ-TV newscasts and special reports outside of regularly-scheduled newscasts.
• Provide creative ideas to showcase the weather segment in an informative and compelling manner.
• Employ strategy and engagement in social media including sending severe weather alerts/warnings.
• Provide input to newscast producers relating to the weather segments.
• Will need to be available to report for all severe weather situations.
• Schedule will include weekends and possible morning shifts
Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years' experience as broadcast TV Meteorologist and weather anchor.
• Must have AMS, CBM, or NWA seal of approval or the ability to begin process of certification within 3 months of contract signing
• Must have working knowledge of computer graphics systems such as: WSI, Barons or Accuweather
• Proven experience using forecasting tools including Doppler Radar and Satellite Maps
• Proven ability to ad-lib effortlessly while under pressure during weather breaking news and during newscasts
Additional Job Requirements:
• Must be willing and able to work weekends
• This is an AFTRA-union represented position and union membership will be required upon hire if not currently a member.
• Must be willing to work in Chicago, IL
• Must be 18 years or greater
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
