Job Description
Responsibilities
NBC Universal Local's station in South Florida is looking for a meteorologist who is passionate about covering severe weather including but not limited to hurricanes, tropical storms, tornadoes and flooding. This scientist/storyteller should also be interested in producing news stories about weather and climate change issues. This is a unique opportunity to join the team that's been awarded WeatheRate's Most Accurate station for nine years in a row.

Responsibilities:
• Implement NBC 6 News philosophy of being the most trusted source for disruptive weather on all platforms
• Tell the day's weather stories in a way that connects with and captivates viewers on all NBC 6 platforms.
• Develop innovative and creative ways of presenting the daily weather story, with an emphasis on accuracy and integrity of data.
• Produce weather graphics, including augmented reality, and analyze data from the National Weather Service as well as other meteorological sources.
• Work with the weather team and producers to create complete coverage of weather stories. Also prepare and post forecasts for multiple platforms.
• Pitch and produce climate change, environmental and other weather-related news stories and be prepared to present them live.
• Attend community and weather-related events as an ambassador of the station.
• Keep producers and managers informed of upcoming weather conditions for coverage plans
• Support other stations when needed
• Produce AR and other graphics to give context to weather stories

Qualifications/Requirements
• Bachelor's degree
• Minimum 2 years as on-air weathercaster
• Experience with WSI weather system and graphics
• Must be willing to work long hours, holidays, varying shifts (including nights, overnights and weekends) and report to work to respond to news emergencies. Continuous coverage.
• Must be willing to work in Miramar, FL and travel as needed for special assignments.
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU's Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
• Must be willing to work in Miramar, FL & surrounding areas.
• Willingness to travel and work overtime, and on weekends with short notice and must be on-call to resolve issues.
• Must have a valid driver's license
• Must be ''on call'' 24 hours a day / 7 days a week

Desired Characteristics
• Bachelor's in Meteorology preferred
• Ability to anticipate situations, meet deadlines, organize and manage multiple priorities
• High energy and teamwork mentality
• Ability to write, shoot and edit stories with a multimedia approach a plus.
• Strong computer skills including working knowledge of WSI system preferred
• Well organized and a high level of attention to detail
• Basic Knowledge of graphic production software, writing and editing
• Scientist who is also a great storyteller
• Passionate about being a part of a major weather event, no matter when it happens
• Should thrive working under the intense deadline pressure of television news/weather
