Responsibilities
OVERVIEW

The Markets Correspondent is an experienced reporter who can independently run the markets blog, quickly and accurately write up breaking stories ranging from global economics and financial markets to specific sectors and individual stocks or companies. As a member of the CNBC Asia Pacific's digital team, you will cover a range of global and Asian stories centred on finance, economics and geopolitics for CNBC.com. You are comfortable writing breaking news, market movers, short-news analysis, or long-form features and deep-dives or explainers under tight deadlines.

You will be managing the news flow for the markets blog – working with colleagues to feature the top market moving news, monitoring news events and the latest research reports using various tools including social media, communicating and coordinating with other digital bureaus, assigning and editing blog posts that are market-moving and relevant to investors and to CNBC's global audience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Pitch strong, compelling story ideas for CNBC.com ranging from quick short market movers, to features and on macroeconomics, central bank decisions or market trends
• Write proprietary stories about markets, finance and economics based on news flow, proprietary reporting and comments from CNBC television interviews
• Interview analysts, economists, fund managers and company executives for stories
• Write background features or special reports on a regular basis in a crisp, compelling and thorough manner
• React to breaking news with the ability to quickly compose an account of the facts, and thoughtfully push a story forward with analysis and reporting
• Stay abreast of the markets, corporate news, and macroeconomic developments, including reading analyst reports to come up with and pitch story ideas
• Assist to oversee the daily Asia markets story includes suggesting sharp and compelling headlines, and guiding the markets reporter on what to include in updates, and occasionally filling in for that writing as needed
• Copy edit blogs, stories, slideshows and videos when needed

Qualifications

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS
• Strong news judgment, in-depth knowledge of financial markets, stock, business, geopolitical and economic news for Asia-Pacific region
• Prior experience and proven ability to write and edit stories on market movers, company earnings and business/sector analysis
• Independent worker who is able to work under time pressure to write clean, accurate copy quickly, while making smart decisions in a fast-paced, breaking news environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to foster good relations with colleagues, contacts and sources
• Proven experience with a leading wire service or business news website
• A clear understanding of CNBC's editorial and programming priorities
• Strong command of English is essential, ability to speak at least one Asian language would be advantageous
• Familiar with data sources for research purposes
• Prior experience working with digital media and content management systems
• Able to prioritize a wide range of tasks while operating under tight deadlines
• Proactive self-starter who takes initiative to propose compelling story ideas and search for new angles to cover broad investment themes
• Flexible and able to work different shifts occasionally, including on weekends or public holidays, when required
• A readiness and adaptability to expand into other media, including TV, podcasts, digital video and charts or graphics
• Relevant university degree required
