Job Description

NBC Connecticut is looking for an experienced Managing Editor to help execute the daily needs of gathering and creating content for distribution across multiple platforms. The successful candidate is a collaborative and organized visionary with exceptional news judgement and people management skills. This position will report directly to the Assistant News Director.

In this role, the ideal candidate will:
• Provide editorial direction to staff including reporters, photographers, assignment editors and producers
• Work in tandem with executive producers, to support their need of content gathering for all platforms
• Approve reporter scripts with an emphasis on enforcing factual integrity and adhering to NBC Connecticut guidelines
• Guide, lead and manage the station's coverage of breaking news and big story coverage
• Work with the digital team to alert it to breaking news and maximize news coverage on all digital platforms
• Identify stories ideas for Telemundo Connecticut
• Handle weekend planning/major events planning
• Maintain and share editorial calendar
• Maintain and share contact data base
• Be responsible for smooth handover to next shift
• Participate in the performance appraisal process in conjunction with the VP of News
• Perform other duties as assigned including scheduling of assignment desk

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
• At least 5 years of newsroom experience

Eligibility Requirements:
• Must be able to work in West Hartford, CT
• Must have a flexible schedule with willingness to travel and work long hours and on weekends with short notice
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

Desired Characteristics:
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in news management role
• Working knowledge of the Connecticut market
• Basic understanding of the NBC Connecticut news brands
• Experience using content management systems and social media tools
• Possess ''on call'' mentality
• Great people skills with an emphasis on coaching and motivating
• Proficiency in working with the latest newsroom technologies (both hardware and software)
• Ability to help set and communicate newsroom policies
• Good collaborative and interpersonal skills to communicate at all levels
• A pioneering spirit with desire to learn emerging technologies and invent the future
• Will be a fierce competitor
• Bilingual in Spanish & English
